Business Cards

Spot UV applies a glossy, shiny finish to selected areas of a print, keeping the surface smooth and flat.

In contrast, Raised Spot UV uses a thicker coating, elevating it about 50 microns above the print. This creates a noticeable texture that can be felt by touch, adding a tactile dimension to the visual appeal.

For each printing order, you can only choose one foil color, either gold or silver, and you can't have a different color on each side. The setup is like Spot UV, where you need a special mask file that shows where you want the foil (in 100% solid black) and where you don't (in white). If you're printing on both front and back, you'll need four files in total: one for the front design, one for the front foil, one for the back design, and one for the back foil. It's best to avoid tiny text or really thin lines in your foil design so it's clear. Try to use foil on less than 50% of your print area for optimal results. Also, the foil might not be placed perfectly—it can shift a little, about 1/16 of an inch. Keep this in mind if your foil design needs to line up with other parts of your print. For the best quality, it's good to use vector-based software like Illustrator to make your mask files.

We begin with a base of 16pt card stock, then apply a 1.5mil soft velvet laminate that is resistant to scuffing on both sides of the card, resulting in a total thickness of 19pt. This soft velvet lamination imparts a gentle and pliable texture and appearance, which tones down the intensity of colors, diminishes contrast, and produces an overall subdued and muted visual effect.

For the best quality, ensure that the UV coating covers no more than 30% of your card. Exceeding this may cause the cards to stick together. Create your mask file as vector art in a program like Illustrator to ensure sharp, clean edges in your design. While you can cover up to 70% with UV coating, this only applies to designs with patterns, thin lines, or small elements. Any single area with raised foil should be kept smaller than 1 inch by 1 inch to avoid issues.

Raised Foil cards are made with thick 16pt card stock, and each side is coated with a 1.5mil soft velvet laminate, making them even thicker at 19pt.

To print Raised Foil cards, you need to provide two files: your regular print file and a special Raised Foil mask file. This mask file, which should be created in a vector-based program like Illustrator, shows exactly where the foil should go.

Use only solid black (C 0%, M 0%, Y 0%, K 100%) in the mask file to mark where you want the foil. Avoid using any shadows, glows, or grayscale images; white areas in the mask file mean no foil.

Be cautious with designs that have 'knockouts' (areas with no foil) because the foil might shift a little (up to 1/16 inch) during application.

Coated papers are available in two finishes – glossy (shiny and smooth) and matt (flat and lusterless). Coated glossy papers reflect the light evenly so they are suitable for almost all types of printing jobs. Glossy papers have a good ink holdout, which is important for creating sharp, bright images.

Printing

You should always start and finish your designs in CMYK color mode. If you send us an RGB file, there is a chance that a color shift may occur and you may not be satisfied with your job.

For offset products (marketing products) we suggest 300 dpi resolution at 100% of the final print size. For Large format we suggest 150 dpi resolution at 100% of the final print size.

We use offset printing, which provides the highest quality of print material for both text and images.

A Bleed is the portion of the image that will be trimmed off when it is cut to the final size.

Offset Printing(business cards, marketing and stationery products):

Bleed must extend past the cut-line and will be trimmed from the product during the final cutting phase. When the image is required to extend all the way to the edge, bleed is needed to preserve the finished look and the quality of the final product. Please keep all text at least 0.25" inside the cut-line. The bleed for Standard Products is 0.25". We recommend using templates at all times.

Large Format Printing (banners, signs, tradeshow & Event products)::

No bleed. Please send actual size. Do not include bleed or crop marks for large format printing.

No. We are now specifically set up to process one side at a time, and this requires that each side of a job must be on a separate file. Not separating files will cause delays and you might have to send the files again. Remember to separate the pages of your .pdf files as well.
